We were greeted immediately as we walked in by Dan, who I believe is the chef, or works in the kitchen. Super friendly and nice. We got a room with two beds - the beds are HUGE. Old, funky hotel - really interesting character and it's definitely not "modern," but it's far more interesting than your average chain hotel. Totally affordable and love the location. You can easily walk right downtown and enjoy the town. Whenever we're back in the area we will be staying here! There isn't breakfast but the cafe down the street is awesome. If you're lucky enough to stay here when Melissa is working, she's the best. Great staff. We decided to have dinner here as well, despite some negative reviews on Yelp. The restaurant was definitely understaffed but all you need to have is a little bit of patience and a good attitude. Our dinner was a killer experience. It took a few minutes to get our bottle of wine, granted... but once we had that, we ordered up an appetizer and it got to us in about 10 minutes. It did take 50 minutes from the time we ordered to the time we got our meals but we spent it happily drinking wine and enjoying the gorgeous night on the patio, eating the appetizer and soaking it all in. A fabulous, leisurely evening. And to have a bottle of red wine, an appetizer and two very tasty filet mignon dishes for $55... it was fantastic.
Sure it's quirky. That's the point. It was built and designed in The hotel rooms are amazingly clean and the beds are super comfy. The room I was in 201 was quiet even though it faces the main road. The room was nicely appointed with period lamp, wallpaper, and pictures. To use the hotel it helps to be able to climb a short flight of stairs but they do have a mobility chair if needed. The outside still needs some love but nothing to complain about with the inside of some of the rooms. My room was great but others in my party not so great. One had basically a bed in a room. So uneven quality but my room gets a nod of approval.
This review is on the meal. I had the shrimp scampi, which was cooked properly and served on a nice rice and vegetable mix. My husband's flat iron steak was excellent! The glaze on it was wonderful. I would eat here again, but service is slow.
